Meet your Sub Camp Leader: Ian Goldswain
“My name is Ian and I’m the Sub Camp Leader of the Technology Sub Camp.
I’m Group Scout Leader with 3rd Upton Scout Group in Slough. I attended 21st World Scout Jamboree in Norway and have been to 3 previous WINGS events. Most of the Technology Sub Camp team members are seasoned WINGS professionals, as we ran the De Havilland Sub Camp during the 2009 event. It’s great to get the old team back together!
Most of my team members are either related to me or are Scout Leaders from my Scout Group. But we have some newbies coming in to add to the experience.
When not Scouting or working, I like to go motorcycling with my family. I have been riding them all my life and, as in Scouting, we particularly enjoy the camaraderie.”
A little bit about Technology
Our Sub Camp is using power generation as a theme – particularly how our use of power has changed throughout the ages.
Our logo will hopefully include James Watt’s first steam engine (installed in 1776), which was the forerunner for the engines that powered the industrial revolution, as well as a Scout (or Guide) using an iPad – an icon of the 21st century and one of the more up-to-date uses of power. We hope to have examples of different ways of generating power in our Sub Camp area – so watch this space!
Given our theme – it’s going to be electrifying ! We look forward to meeting you all in August.
