Meet your Sub Camp Leader: Nige Board
“Welcome to Science Sub Camp. My name is Nige Board, and I am the Sub Camp Leader.
I think I have chosen my Sub Camp well… I am an environmental scientist by training and profession!
I have been a Scout Leader for 28 years and attended the very first WINGS (and several more besides) as a Unit Leader, so it is great to be going this time as part of the all-important staff team.
I want you all to have a great experience at the Science Sub Camp and hope to learn some things along the way too as I prepare to take a Unit to the World Scout Jamboree in Japan 2015.”
A little bit about Science
You know that the theme for the jamboree is discovery, our Sub Camp fits so well into that theme – science is all about discovery. There have been so many scientific discoveries that make such a difference to our lives.
If you just think of famous scientists like Edison (light bulbs, movie cameras), Watson and Crick (DNA and the advances in genetic profiling that followed), or Fleming for the discovery of penicillin to treat infection – you can see the difference that science makes to us all.
We have plans to celebrate such things, and are hopeful that we will have one or two high profile visitors coming along to help show us all what fun science can be.
The Sub Camp team has youth on its side (despite its ageing leader), as well as a combination of skills drawn from near and far. We are truly looking forward to meeting you in Windsor.
