One Year On…
Happy anniversary! It is a year since I was appointed as the Camp Director for WINGS 2014.
I find myself wondering “where has the year gone?” and “look at what has been achieved.”
To tell the story of the last year I am going to do the classic good, bad, good sandwich.
We have recruited all the delivery leads across programme, site operations, participant experience, HR, marketing and finance. Within each of these areas we have started to build really strong teams that are helping to shape the experience that WINGS 2014 will be.
We have agreed a budget with the two counties and from this set our fees. We have visited several international events this summer to pick up all the good ideas.
On the slightly frustrating side for the delivery team is that we are slightly behind where we wanted to be with our launch, hence we have yet to publish our fees. This will be soon, so please keep checking the website or look out for the update emails.
On the plus side we have made really good progress with how the site will be laid out, what the programme will be like and how we will deliver the vision of “sharing culture, experiences and Berkshire”. Without giving too much away, I can tell you that “discovery” will be part of the story, the programme will be exciting and that the showers will be wet!
I would like to finish with a few words of thanks. To the Steering Group, especially Jim and Fi for their sound advice and fair challenge. To the delivery team for being so enthusiastic and getting so much done in a short space of time. And to my very understanding wife and son, who lose me to emails and meeting, keep me sane and ask “do you really want to say that?”
So, what a year, and if you thought that was busy… keep your eyes open for future director’s blogs as members of the delivery team share their thoughts on the adventures of building WINGS.
